Phil Walsh was more than just a sports identity. He was the Phys-ed teacher at Nashville High School, back in the day. For those who don't know, that school graduated more young crims than most in this area. Until Phil went there. He turned a lot of young peoples lives around, and it is not only in South Australia, that people are in shock. He was playing for the Brisbane Bears, I believe, at that time.


Good men like Phil Walsh do not deserve to be put down by bitter old men, in front of a computer. Bob

Some people are quick with humour when there is news of this sort. My wife tells me there was a Facebook comment along the lines of "if there is a football team called the Crows, one would have to expect a murder".

After this, I wonder if discussions about DV will still ignore the need for support and protection for male victims too.

I think on average, one person is murdered each week in a DV incident. That's horrific. As a society we appear to be unconcerned, or perhaps largely immune, to homicides, assaults and intimidation offences (against people), which is a disgrace. Why do 'we' accept that behaviour? The effect of Mr.Walsh's murder has struck a core with many sporting fans, and it is a tragedy, however his death is yet another DV related murder.

There has been comment on a recent interview he gave (with the ABC?) showing an insight to the relationship with his son, and that can be examined later, but there's often more than two sides to a story.

At the end of the day he's dead, a family destroyed, and a young man's life wasted. I would hope the focus moves beyond the death of a local sporting icon and we start looking at how we treat each other at home, and generally.

It's an awful situation and for those affected I hope you receive the support you need.
