you are confusing the wiring with the radiator hoses....
I have a marine steamship background and the stuff that made the ship work was white steam and the stuff that made the lights work was green steam - from the colloquilal term for electricians who were called 'greenies' - hence green steam 8)
PS - electrical wires/cables are called electric strings
