i think that if you switch off or stall the engine while in low range with the diff locked it deactivates the ETC when you restart the engine.....
cant say i have remembered to try this yet.....havent really needed to...

I always maintained the 2 best mods i done on my Discovery TD5 were tyres and a CDL, I didnt spend a fortune on one of the after market kits but made up a simple mechanical linkage from an article in the tech section at Discoweb.org it only cost me a tenner but was very effective. On the Disco2 with an aftermarket CDL you have the option of CDL only CDL and ETC or ETC on its own. By starting the engine with CDL engaged ETC is disabled (its a facility for the mechanics in the workshop while doing certain servicing).
We used it to great effect in the Sahara last year and I found ETC to be a real struggle in deep sand. Unfortunately we dont have too many deserts here in Scotland so i have not had an oportunity to test the new 90. I am a big fan of ETC in most other situations, so much so that I specified it on the 90.
That is a nice 110 greylandy, love the colour!
So it doesnt reactivate after a certain period of time.Quote:

You have a PM Kev. Matt
G'day All,
I'll be in a Stockton run, love the place! Great place, does get a little crowded though, being so close to Sydney.

I may be on Stockton soon in my NON CDL V8 disco. What about if you just give is mammoth amounts of right pedal. It worked for me before! Get's a tad hot though.
I like the idea of yanking that fuse.
Trouble is you end up with alternate ends of the car spinning, then locking and then spinning again. Stupid!
One rule for me:
If the wheels can slip I engage the CDL.
No reason not too and plenty of reasons to do so.
Haven't got stuck... yet.

you do have a CDL......you just gotta crawl underneath with a spanner to switch it on and off dont you?
NOPE. My tranny is the one that has no bits INSIDE. Nothing. Nudda, nietch. Nine, Non. NOTHING!
More pedal. That's the trick with traction I reckon
I'll second the best mod being the CDL in my '99 S2 Disco. Played around at a few parks prior to fitting - Why did LR take it our in the first place - and the ETC worked very well until you start lifting wheels off the ground etc. Fitted the CDL and now there is no stopping the disco. Kevin is right, you simply engage the CDL, switch the engine off and back on again and this deactivates the ETC and ABS leaving the CDL engaged. Before any reasonably extreme stuff I switch off the ETC and ABS as I find it far easier to rely on my braking etc when in a sticky situation - it's a manual I drive also- , I also hate the annoying whirring noise the ETC makes when in use!!Quote:

Where in Scotland are you from Kevin, I'm from Fife myself and have been here in Oz for 4 years now......the 4x4 driving out here is off the dial, so much to choose from.
Aye, Mick
Can someone enlighten me to the disadvantage of having ETC on, in a CDL equiped vehicle - I would have though it would have been better than the standard setup of straight open diffs - most of the times I have been stuck in my disco has been because of the opposite wheels spinning etc - even happened in the dirt carpark at work - most embarrasing at knockoff time when all the smart arses come over and ask if the front hubs are locked - dddddahhh - or whether I would a like push or a tow by their Rav 4.
While my disco does not have ETC - my Freelander does.
