Ok people, in a couple of weeks go out and get it, there is also an article on a custom V8 97 Disco, not overboard but practical, an article on fitting new suspension and coils to a county and the letter of the of the month is a killer defender extreme. Not a bad month for the land rover boys. Matt

Chris, Dont take this the wrong way. (everyone says that...)

Chris has the ultimate in 4WD, i envy him and when we went out last week one of the hills had me feeding the gas on a tad more as i was breaking traction on a rock climb. Loved it.

Will the D3 be reliable long term. Sure it has everything we want, but Chris has already has a hickup with it. I'd kill for one, but as i'm a tightass and i wait for the 2nd release, if i had the $$ to spend i'd wait.

I respect Chris as he wanted one and said, Yep i'm getting one. I'm not like that, but if we were all the same then it would be boring...

Will the D3 hold its value? Will it still be as good and have no major faults in 5-10 years time. I hope so... it will then stick it up Yoyo (toyo) and Hissan.

Good on LR for taking a BIG gamble.... it would have to be the biggest gamble in motoring history... in my eyes... Ford thinks the Territory was...

Chris i hope you have no problems and keep on showing us what a great 4WD you have.
I'm not being negative, just sceptical..... i am a bit old fashioned and i dont like complications in my everyday life....
IE i drive a Volvo, Landy with bugger all ad-ons....
Both i can fix on the side of the Road. i think.....

Reminds me.... Chris on the next trip any chance of us going for a Ride up or down a hill.....

I said the AU Falcon would be popular in its 1st Trim. People hated it...

I also said Ford will win Bathurst in 2004 and Volvo will win in 1998.. Wrong both times....

But i did say i wont get panel damage on the last trip and i was right even thou i punted the Fender like a Rally Car..... Lordy me it can go fast when you want it to....

When we go out next I'd more than be happy to let you ride in the D3. Last week we just didn't have the time.

You have made lots of valid points which I was and still are worried about.

Things like resale. I noticed the more you spend the bigger the depreciation. Discos are no exception. You can spend 60 or 70 gorillas and in 3 or 4 years it's only worth 30k trade in or even less. I suspect the D3 will be the same.

There are heaps of electronics and when its out of warranty in 3 years that's when the costs of repairs are going to kick in in a big way for major failures. I'm hoping the D3 will be reliable as anything I've had before.

Roadside repairs are going to be a bit hit and miss. To be honest I think most cars and 4WD's these days are going to baffle most people unless they are mechanics working on these things everyday.

I think mechanically the D3 is a strong vehicle judging by the size of the parts under the body so hopefully internals are just as strong. I also think that because you don't need to drive it that hard to get over obstacles its going to be easier on the drive train. Also I've got the rear diff lock which makes slippery stuff a bit easier again on the drive train.

I have planned to keep the D3 for 6-7 years maybe even longer to get maximum $ value out of the D3. In the past I've traded in at around 3-4 years but you just can't do this on an expensive vehicle without loosing heaps of dosh. So for everyone who's waiting for 2 or 3 year D3's your probably going to get a bargain unless LR can turn around the low resale values.

If you buy a Tojo and maybe a ****an then you probably will fair a lot better in resale value. Cruisers seem to hold their value very well due to their popularity.

By the way Steve I think you definitely punted the Defender as if you were trying to clean the stage and not drop any time. When I got back to Walhalla I think you were sitting back already with a coldie in the hand [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif[/img]
