Ross tried on the rims and fitted one tyre to a rim. He will fit the rest by tomorrow.

I was so exited that I had to make a post.

The rims actually look okay in reality compared to the pics on the Performance Wheels website. They almost look like factory wheels.

What tyres did you end up getting?
    Ace,

I've got the Cooper S/T 245/70R17. These aren't the anti chip compound which are not available in my size.

I decided on these over the new STT which looks great but could be rather noisy compared to the S/T. I don't plan to do heaps of mud drives which the STT might be better suited to where as the S/T seems to be a better all rounder. Also the comments I got back on my previous post on the Coopers gave me some reassurance that the S/T was a good tyre. I spoke with Wardy on the Walhalla trip and he has a set of S/T's on his Disco 2 and I think he mentioned it was his second set.

I nearly ordered a set, and in some ways wish i had, but i went the Mickey Thompsons instead, which i am really happy with. But the tyre place said, how i know quite well, that the Cooper dealer said that the main problem with the S/T's is that people go at it like a bull at a gate and tear chunks off the tyres. This of course cant be applied to everyone, as not all 4wds are redneck yobos, just cruiser drivers. Having said this your driving style on and off road will have a massive effect on your tye life, if you take the calm slow steady approach to obstacles then you wont be as likely to tear chunks off your tyres, if you are driving like you are in the Paris to Dakar then you will inevidably destroy your tyres. Let me know how you find them as i might try them next. Matt

I'm the go easy type. Don't want to bust anything if I can help it. So hopefully they will last.

Did you know Mickey Thompson and Cooper are the same company? This is what Ross from Tyrepower told me. Sounds like it is true.

Here's some pics of the new wheels on the D3.

The tyres hum a bit between 60-80kph and at 100kph they aren't too bad. The speedo is now only 2kph under. So at 100kph on the speedo the GPS reads 98kph which is much better than before.

Snowchains have got plenty of inner wheel clearance.

Now I'm set to go almost anywhere

    Looks good Chris

Now all you need is a bull bar and winch, spare wheel carrier on the back, roof lights, snorkel................

    Once the bug bites

Lucky for your cheque book most of that hasn't been developed for the D3 yet

Must admit, after reading the report in the latest 4wd Monthly I'm certainly warming to the D3, seeing pics of yours helps 8)

    Glen.
I was reading the 4WD monthly report last night and as Ace reported it has impressed these guys. They don't talk too highly of the Jeep. I must admit what they say is pretty true about the way it handles on road tyres. Can't wait to try out the new rubber.

All I think I need now is a snorkel and that will be about it until I I can convince the other half on camping then I'll need roof tracks and roof bars for the roof top tent.

    Hiline,
who cares even if you do make a quid out of it if the advice is good and the products work, you probablly should make something out of it. A lot of retailers will give you some sort of kickback if you bring them business. I know it is not in the blood of LR owners to expect something in return for their help. Since getting ny first Rover in 97 I have noticed that LR drivers have a tendency to approach one another for a chat or if stranded you can end up with multiple vehicles pulling up to assist. Especially so with Range Rover drivers (real 4wdrivers not the posers in the newbies). I think it is agreat thing. Dont let the Toymota crowd in on the secret as its great to see them being towed/rescued by a LR.
    Keep it up.

I have put the STT's on the Fender and while there is a little more road noise than the BFG AT's it is not significant. Mainly you hear it a bit when coming to a stop on the black top, due to the blocky tread. I am almost certain on a D2 or 3 there would not be much increase in noise. Having said that it may be just possible that in fact they are quite loud as I can hear them over every other Fender noise!!!!!!
