It has happened before. These days, I don't think anyone in Canberra has enough nous or guts

Billy , did you meant to write nuts or nous.....I think it should correctly be nuts.
Australian manufacturers don't make it easy. Yesterday at 14:40 (twenty minutes before closing) I went to One Steel to buy a sheet of light weight reo mesh. The dispatch staff were reluctant to re-enter the warehouse so close to knock off and eventually used the excuse that my trailer could not legally carry the sheet, refusing to sell it to me. I did not believe that to be true but was in no position to argue. I have since checked the Queensland Transport site and found that the load would be legal on my trailer. Obviously I will have to make my purchase from an importer, despite my efforts to buy Australian. I wonder how much I will save.
You may have to swallow those words, Billy.
New taxes to regulate China steel supply - 9news.com.au
Two problems before anyone swallows anything,
1: Wizard of oz rescue package only covers some of Arriums products to the level of UP TO 30% tarrif ,lower on lots compared to the USA having tariffs of up to 267% ( no decimal place missing 267%)
2: Torries , depending upon source are going/ offering to buy 25% of the U.K. Steel plants in nationalisation not seen for 25 plus years at a cost of between ?4-500million and ?2 billion pounds or roughly $1-4 billion AUD .
So the bitter pill we are being asked to swallow is a project brought forward worth $80 million, a local company(bisalloy) saying between them, Arrium and Bsl they could supply all steel for any locally built subs/ naval vessels , being ignored and dismissed.
Subs gone to French company, supposedly built here.

I wonder if they will be like an IKEA set , all imported with poorly translated instructions and 3 bolts missing , or worse 2 bolts left in bag when it's finished?
At least they will have decent food and wine on board.
I once came back on an Airbus 300-600 Factory to Brisbane ferry flight. The food and wine was VERY nice :)
So how many Billion extra, just so some Pollies keep their seats.
Imagine a spare 20 Billion going into a new national rail network for example. And we could possibly make rail straight enough not to import it.
