    Whose rules?

...sounds just like neo-colonialism to me, no wonder you want the union jack in the middle of the flag!
I explained whose rules in my post. I think you understand me pretty well, though.

We have had Threads on this subject before and like this Thread the discussion can become quite heated as people are passionate about whether to change the flag or not.

My opinion is we need to change the flag as the current one looks like "England at night". What the design should be.....I don't know, but it must incorporate the Aboriginies as well as the people of various backgrounds who have migrated here. The only thing that should remain on the flag is the "Southern Cross" as we are the great south land.

Work a design around the Southern Cross incorporating what I have mentioned above!!

If we want to represent everybody we could expand on the old South African flag. Something like this but we'd have to replace the current Au National with the Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal flags.

Maybe over the boxing kangaroo bas a background.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I always see a naked person picking up the soap from the shower floor.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

That's the best alternative I've see so far! Nice one.

We should keep it simple and recognizable, like the Japanese rising sun. Everyone immediately knows it is Japan.
The current Australian flag could be half a dozen countries - there's nothing uniquely Aussie about it.

The problem is and will be that there isn't agreement across the board on what a new flag should look like. None of the current flock of useless politicians will have the spine to suggest something like a new flag as there isn't a majority opinion to follow. So we'll be stuck with our current flag for a while yet. Last commonwealth country to change its flag and probably the last one to adopt gay marriage. Good effort Australia.
