Our country has been lead by sheep for generations so based on that i propose replacing the southern cross with a sheep under the union jack.
    Seems appropriate.

How many million did it cost them to leave it as it was? A lesson for us to learn.

It won't be time for a new flag until we've grown up enough to become a republic, NZ or OZ.

I don't believe for one second that anyone died for a flag. Their mates, country, ideals or Monarch, yes but not for a flag.
    Cheers, Billy.
    Keeping it simple is complicated.

    Dunno its possible.
Someone trying to steal an enemies flag. That would get ya killed and likely did at some point.
Someone putting a flag up to symbolize control of that area could get ya killed also.
    Just putting it out there.

In both cases they would have died for what the flag represents. Stealing or capturing a flag has a profound effect on its owners and its captors. Raising a flag has has an equal effect, not because it's a nice piece of cloth but because of what it symbolises.

Be that as it may they would infact die for the flag.
See if you change the flag for a set of undies the principal remains.
You die because of the undies. Had you not stolen or captured the undies you would not have died.
I understand what your saying. I just think more literally i guess.
If a family member was told of the death they would be told something like this...
He died while trying to steal the enemies flag, of which was very important symbolically to the troops... blah blah blah.
But he would have died for that said flag. Not for the flags ideals or the ideals behind it. Rather for the literal material! The actual flag.
My point basically was that some well may have died for that material instead of what it means or symbolizes.
    Just my 2 cents worth.

I've said it before and I will say it again the Australian and New Zealand flags look like Great Britain at night and it is about time we stepped off the pommy apronstrings. New flag well overdue.

Yes, the opinions on either side of the argument are pretty strong but I believe as time goes by and we distance ourselves more and more from Great Britain it will be realised we need a flag to give us an individual identity, not some colonial offshoot of the "mother country".

And I can think of better things to spend $26,000,000 on.

Did you listen to what I linked to?
