    Show us yer workbench

Having just posted into the venerable old Show us Yer Shed Thread, I wanted to ask if you'd be so kind as to show your workbench.

Reason is, I have this lovely new shed and space to put in a decent workspace and workbench, but I am looking for inspiration on what kinds of bench, where to put power tools and vices and that kind of thing.

The area I have to play with is about 6x4m and that will include shelving, etc.

This will be for working on the lifestyle block, wood working and of course, fixing the Landies and other assorted machines.

No pictures, but a little bit of advise. If your a bit slack cleaning up after yourself (like me) don't make the bench too big as you will end up with it just being a storage area for all sorts of ****. I now have a smaller bench that is quicker to clean up and more room for storage containers to keep all the **** in.

My workbench is right next to the passenger door on the Disco. It means my wife looks at the bench as she gets in the car. I can tell from the way she gets in the car if she thinks it's too messy. Works well actually, sometimes I back the car out, tidy the bench, then continue on.

I hear you! I have 2 workbenches and they are piled up with tools and stuff... I have to push them aside to place something down to work on it.

I havn't got photos either, but I subscribe to the heavier and stronger is better... one of my benches I can only barely lift one end... very good for when you want to beat the living day lights out of something because it doesn't move. Nothing makes me more mad then when I go to tighten a vice and the stupid bench moves.

Thanks guys. Good to see so far.

I like the idea of having the shelving alongside but I think I'd use that for storing power tools.

Point taken about having it smaller. In fact I am thinking of having three main benches. One with heavy type or permanently mounted tools like the bandsaw, drill press, etc., one with the big vice (hopefully a Record No6 if I win the auction) and for generally banging stuff and one on wheels that I do most of my stuff on. I also have a Record wood working bench with two wood working vices on it.
