By that stage Defenders will be so valuable (I wish) we will need guards to stop them being stolen.
Here too.
Tesla says vehicle was on autopilot when it crashed, killing driver
Tesla says vehicle was on autopilot when it crashed, killing driver in California - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
I read a test of a Tesla a couple of months back where it was tested in "real world" driving up the M1 out of Sydney - tested basically heading north from Waitara up the M1 up past Brooklyn. The M1 is basically 3 lanes wide heading north - typically the type of road that autonomous cars are supposed to be able to drive.
The car was constantly spooked by faster cars overtaking (picking them up as they edged ahead) and swerving away from the overtaking vehicle into other lanes at times in front of cars in the other lanes. Also those familiar with the M1 will know it goes through steep cuttings and the Tesla's sensors were picking up the sandstone "buttresses" at the side of the road and started braking and swerving away as the car thought they were an approaching vehicle. The "test" was soon suspended as being too dangerous and the test drive was then completed with the driver in charge.
I think that we will have these vehicles on the road in due course but like all things involved in the making of money these are being rushed out to the market too soon.

I can't see them ever being successful on roads with vehicles driven by people.
On their own roads they will be fine,as they are in the mines, etc.
But intermingling with driven traffic, way to many issues....
Though if there is money in it for some, they will keep pushing the R&D along....
In theory they sound great, but in reality, not so.
Whack a P plate on every autonomous vehicle and no-one will be able to pick the difference... [biggrin]
**** the autobots, i can drive better than any computer
