My goodness; 1984 is taking a long time to arrive.
    Cheers, Billy.

It’s already here if you use Google or Facebook. The majority have willingly signed up and given up their human autonomy. Autonomous vehicles is the next step.

Clearly the name autopilot is a problem. Misleading to say the least.

...I wonder how long it will be before the tables are turned and we’re booked for actually driving a car, rather than being driven by the system? Hmm

    From the article:
PC Kirk Caldicutt, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire road policing unit, described Patel’s actions as grossly irresponsible and said it could have easily ended in tragedy.

“He not only endangered his own life but the lives of other innocent people using the motorway on that day. This case should serve as an example to all drivers who have access to autopilot controls and have thought about attempting something similar,” he said.

“I want to stress that they are in no way a substitute for a competent motorist in the driving seat who can react appropriately to the road ahead. I hope Patel uses his disqualification period to reflect on why he chose to make such a reckless decision on that day.”

Road investigators were told by Tesla engineers that the autopilot function, including traffic-aware cruise control and auto-steer, was only intended to assist a “fully attentive driver”.

    We get 'ludicrous' in Tesla's eye-popping Model S - cars4starters.com.au

For a quarter of a million dollars

Hidden in the centre B pillars and front guards are tiny cameras that link to software on board. If these cameras can see white roadside markings then the full LCD dash will display a grey steering wheel icon.

This tells the driver that autonomous driving mode is available for use.
and it can only work in autonomous mode if it can see painted white lines on either side.
That counts out most of the roads I travel on.

I think this represents better value:
