Somehow I think the media might be telling just a fraction of the story here Mitch. The good burgers of AULRO don't strike me as a mob which has scant regard for knowledge. They don't mind jumping on a good farce when they see one though. You have to admit that the science involved here can never be truly accurate unless it is based on a very large sample. As the Media have reported it it really does seem farcical, but I'll bet there is a lot more to it. If I was a Conspiracy Theorist..., I'd postulate that Guinness put that story about, maybe even part-funded the 'Research' in order to increase sales and interest in their Healthy, Beneficial and Incredibly Valuable & Useful Beverage not only amongst the faithful, but into the hallowed Halls of Academe...

SupporterI'm still waiting for someone who thinks this is an example of pointless research to explain why people who use their mobile phone to check the time are less punctual and less diligent than those who use a wristwatch. As I said before, this piece of research wasn't just to prove that if you know the time, you will get to meetings punctually.
Actually that isn't quite what I'm waiting for. I'm really waiting to see how many different theories people have about why that is so.That would suggest that some things are not as obvious as might first appear.
Or maybe I am waiting expecting that no-one will have a sensible explanation. That might suggest that this research touches on some aspect of human behaviour that is not fully understood and which therefore warrants further investigation.

I have a theory: When people check their Mobile Phones they are suddenly alerted to all the notifications from Face Book, Instagram,their Email and so forth. All of which demand immediate attention.
