For the purpose of this post would these be weapons, assuming the firing mechanisms are disabled.

Second World War tank and anti-aircraft gun found hidden in basement of villa in Germany - Telegraph

What a guy but the nanny state strikes again.

Mind you it could be disconcerting if he fired up the Panther in a hissy fit.

That is the problem, is the intended use of items more important than the items available. That is the key to assessment success not ticking boxes To keep some one in a job.

One of my children suffers from Autism.
We had some ladies come to our house to do assessments regarding her condition. They were nice ladies.
Anyway a few days later DHS comes to our house!
Reports of weapons in the house.
Long story short the 2 ladies who come to my house noticed a screwdriver in the house within reach of my kids so called DHS on us!

    Anything can be a weapon!
I understand there point actually. An object that is within reach and can be used as a weapon becomes a weapon. Assuming there are people/kids that are incapable of rationalizing the situation.

That said in my situation the DHS laughed when they come to our house as we look after our kids/home and dont leave WEAPONS lying around.
Hell my elder son was using the said screwdriver to tinker with one of his toys on that particular day!

    Food for thought though.

The firearms/weapons question is mandatory as a WHS risk assessment set by health. The problem with the question is that only a Police officer is authorised to ask and receive a reply to the question. Given the number of targeted burglaries to steal firearms the last person you'd inform is someone who isnt authorised to ask. Criminals would never inform someone from the government, even if it is health, about illegal weapons in the house. So if legal gun owners are reluctant to answer and illegal owners wont answer truthfully, why even bother asking the question?

If only the police are authorised to ask the question, are other organisations committing an offence by asking it.

For example, and it may be a bad example, I cannot ask an applicant their HIV status, but other persons may

i think its a case of, if the police ask, your obliged to answer truthfully.

with any other organisation, your not obliged. however that organisation doesnt have to provide you with a servce if they think it will breach their OH&S

And, do those organisations keep this info secure? If so, how?
Do they share this with anyone?

We had to answer these questions to get some in-home day care and I thought how easy for people to steal this info from the provider's office.

For argument's sake... replace the knife in this bloke's hand with a pencil or a chopstick, and he'd still beat your ass 6 ways from sunday...
It wouldn't take long to be messed up by someone with intent, with just about anything that comes to hand.

We know that civilian employees in the nsw firearms registry were dismissed after a large number of targeted burglaries but police never disclosed the reasons. Why would we expect better from other organisations?

I do know that many of the visit booking processes are effectively call centres which then allocate the nurses etc for the home visiting. The information is therefore handled by several people and retained in a database, previously I wrote one of the databases which has now been transferred to commercially built software. The information is as safe as other medical records but is accessible by anyone who has a professional need to access your records. Logins are recorded to the individual staff ID every time a record is accessed.

If other industries acted the same as health: Can you imagine Harvey Norman refusing to deliver your new fridge because you didn't answer the question satisfactorily?
