Shades of Y2K
Back in 99 Nestle were doing a global audit for preparedness,
the PNG factory passed with flying colours.
No power
No water
No sewerage
Riots,
No worries, routine occurrences up there.
Now contemplate no Internet for 72 hours, possibly across the globe, so many critical services rely on the assumption it will always be on.

Nothing as comprehensive as the above, but learned the hard way that a week-ender+ Grab-Bag is a sound idea....
Found myself in hospital at shrt notice (9 days) and had to endure the frustration of 'Distance Glasses', a flattening phone battery, boredom and Noise...
Mine is a redundant Laptop-bag and has a phone charger/cables, notebook, pen, few $$$, sox/jocks and toiletries, spare reading glasses, light reading, mp3 player/earphones, band-aids and insulation tape.
Lives near the bedside drawers, which makes it easy for Wife to grab and bring it in.
-Which saves on the frustration of said spouse bringing in the rrong Noise Cancelling headphones with 1/4" plug.... which don't fit the music player...
- When you get well past Middle-Age you need to think of these events...

I am away most weekends. My toiletry bag contains toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo and conditioner and a brush. My backpack can have a week's clothes stuffed in in a few minutes. The camper already contains a coffee plunger so I just have to chuck the coffee (of course) and some snacks in the fridge and hook up the camper. The hat, jacket and boots live in the Defender. Got enough fuel to get up the hill to safety. Outta here.
