I have had my waeco since easter 2001 when they had a big sale on. Its the 40litre one. I used at as a freezer for about 3months in the house and then lent it to a mate who used it as a freezer for a about 6 months.
Its still going strong and was half the price of the engel when I bought mine.
I would buy another one for sure.
An interesting comparison I normally show when selling is that the sizes of the internal baskets of bothe the Engel 40Lt and the Waeco CF60 are a VERY similar size. Waeco are only slightly taller, but have the 'Dairy/Fruit' compartment.

had no probs with my cf50. great unit, low current draw and quiet. Saved roughly $500 on the price diff so i reckon the engel is relying on reputation to sell...... bit like Landrovers really [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif[/img]
Waeco been permantly fitted to the disco for three years now and has travelled 85000 kms, most of which has been corrugated roads up here on the cape. the fridge is turned on when ever the car is, basically. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]
I can actually say this is the most reliable and trouble free thing I have ever bought. 8) I just keep hoping that the landy gets the hint and tries to be more like the fridge. 8O
being an old interstate driver ,i always had the old green engels and loved them.They used to cop a hiding in the truck,and when my mates would come for a ride the fridge was often used as a seat .Add that to pot holes and stuff,they were super tuff.Now i have my disco and i'm back in the market for a fridge,i must say i really like the waeco.Looked at a 12 month old 50lt one with the cover and seriosly thinking of getting it. was looking at around the $800 mark with the insulated cover.Condition is as new but used.
has anyone checked the wall thickness on both brands ?
ie, how much (hopefully urethane) foam is actually in there ?
Are they poured in situ, or foam slab construction ? (poured in place makes for denser foam=less heat transfer)
This will make a difference on total current draw.
just a couple of thoughts.
I am well pleased with my Waeco CF40. It sits permanently in the Disco. Runs off a dedicated 6mm supply from the vehicle's single battery. The performance was crap running off the cigar lighter. The same would apply to an Engel. So what ever your choice of fridge consider the power supply.
