Not a problem, I think, the road to Cloncurry has been sealed for 2 years now & even though the rivers/creeks come up/down we should get trucks through for a couple of weeks yet at least & I can get home for Christmas as I have promised SWMBO.
BUT, some idiot that works for Main Roads or whoever decided that it would be a good idea to wait until the middle of December & 2 days before rain to pull out the Beamsbrook bridge & put in a temporary bridge.
Now, nobody is going anywhere by road. The rain has closed all the dirt roads, the Leichardt River has come up, I have 2 trucks on the other side of the Brook & they can't finish the bridge due to the rain.
Last night I told SWMBO that it was unlikely that I would get home for Christmas, then held the phone a loooong way from my ear for a few minutes. Once she had slightly calmed down we decided to postpone Christmas till I got home. Fortunately we live 10k from town so we hope the kids won't work out that they are having the day a little late, have to ban visitors for a week or 2.
Anyway, What complete Nong decides it's a good idea to pull out a bridge in FNWQ in December? It has been dry since March & the bridge could have been done any time all year. Apparently they thought it might effect the number of tourist???????????
Most tourist couldn't care less if they had to drive a bit further & on a bit of dirt road, that's why they come up here!
So, unless the sky suddenly clears it looks like I will be spending Christmas in Doomadgee with the Roadhouse cat & dog, no alcohol & being just a bit ****ed off.
Rant finished for now, thank-you.

PS Hope those that have had no rain & need it get some.
My experience is these jobs are only done when the money is available. If the job isn't started then, for whatever reason, the money is allocated to the next in line.Frustrating, yes, annoying, absolutely.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
