    Not a Good Idea.

So, after a year of being told Australia would be having an El Nino this year with no wet season for the North we have had 2 weeks of rain.

Not a problem, I think, the road to Cloncurry has been sealed for 2 years now & even though the rivers/creeks come up/down we should get trucks through for a couple of weeks yet at least & I can get home for Christmas as I have promised SWMBO.

BUT, some idiot that works for Main Roads or whoever decided that it would be a good idea to wait until the middle of December & 2 days before rain to pull out the Beamsbrook bridge & put in a temporary bridge.

Now, nobody is going anywhere by road. The rain has closed all the dirt roads, the Leichardt River has come up, I have 2 trucks on the other side of the Brook & they can't finish the bridge due to the rain.

Last night I told SWMBO that it was unlikely that I would get home for Christmas, then held the phone a loooong way from my ear for a few minutes. Once she had slightly calmed down we decided to postpone Christmas till I got home. Fortunately we live 10k from town so we hope the kids won't work out that they are having the day a little late, have to ban visitors for a week or 2.

Anyway, What complete Nong decides it's a good idea to pull out a bridge in FNWQ in December? It has been dry since March & the bridge could have been done any time all year. Apparently they thought it might effect the number of tourist???????????
Most tourist couldn't care less if they had to drive a bit further & on a bit of dirt road, that's why they come up here!

So, unless the sky suddenly clears it looks like I will be spending Christmas in Doomadgee with the Roadhouse cat & dog, no alcohol & being just a bit ****ed off.

    Rant finished for now, thank-you.

    Bother!

yes they do have some good ideas.
At the local Kindergarten they have to put in a ramp for wheelchair access, not a problem, only the bloke who was designing it from the council wanted to put it across the front playground limiting the play area by well over 50% and he would not be told! Now as the numbers in the kindy are directly related to the outside play area, ummm well don't you think this might have some kind of bearing on the viability of the kindy? But he would not be told.
Eventually he was made to see sense by a woman more stubborn than he and believe me she is like a dog with a bone once she has her mind set on something. She will not let it go!

So yes I know there are some bright sparks out there, who don't realise what the consequences of the decisions they make and it irritates you to say the very least. I feel for you and your family and try to enjoy "your Christmas"

It must have something to do with the brilliant minds within MRD & RMS (same thing in NSW).
Yesterday they opened part of the new highway, built on the eastern side of the old road, between Byron turn off and Ballina. Partially being only the northbound part. This of course forced north and southbound traffic to cross each other's path. The result being five kilometres of traffic banked up in each direction. Whoever would have thought that would happen?
Today a bit more opened, the crossover happening at the Byron turnoff. Traffic was stop/start all the way up and over again St. Helena, that does wonders for the clutch of a b double.
Bloody morons, they wouldn't last five minutes in a proper job.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

My experience is these jobs are only done when the money is available. If the job isn't started then, for whatever reason, the money is allocated to the next in line.Frustrating, yes, annoying, absolutely.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

Turns out it's just a Madden-Julian Oscillation event that out muscled El Nino for a few days.

We've now had 90% of our Dec average and it would be nice to send some to those who really need it.

    Fingers crossed!
They have opened the Burketown to Normanton road.
If, a big IF, my assistant managers drive back in today/tonight I will get the Hell out of Dodge first thing tomorrow.
There is still rain about & a Cyclone brewing so I might have to drive for a couple of hours then turn around & come back but if anything can get out I figure the D3 should.
BTW They are still mucking about with the bridge & who knows when it will reopen.
