    electricity meter has wrong time

    hi guys.
i have an old school electricity meter with a mechanical timer for peak and off peak times.
ive had a look at it today and noticed the time is about 4hours out as you can see in the photo. photo taken at 4.15pm

does it need to be fixed?
    who fixes this?
can i fix it myself? i cant see any buttons or screws to turn.

You would have to snip the tags and crank the clock around...wouldn't bother, just means your off peak is on at a different time, which I'm assuming is hot water?

    Hi,
If the time error suits your habits and saves you money, do nothing.
If it doesn't, and it is costing you money, complain.

    Cheers

report to SA Power Networks faults and emergencies, note your meter number, the equipment belongs to them, if it stops you either have no hot water or 24hr a day hot water $$$.
yes I am an electrician here in SA

It wont cost you to sort it out

Does your time clock not simply switch a contact which then the off peak meter ticks over for the period of time the off peak time clock contact is made, so has no effect on $$$

these timers have a mechanical back up to an electric motor to drive them, they have a tendency to slow down and then stop, you can get the mech rewound up like a clock but its generally about time for quits for the timer. the replacement electronic meters have the J tarrif inbuilt with an external boost button, much more reliable.
most people get a bit miffed when their power bill increases about 500% due to the hot water heating up every time you turn a tap on.

I'd be careful about snipping the tags, I thought this would land a fine or similar for tampering with the device?

well i learnt something today, i didnt know that off peak only applied to the hot water service. i had been doing the laundry at night thinking i was saving money. ha.

a guy at cfs is a former electrician, he said to leave it as it working in my favor.

It sounds to me like you are still on the old slow electricity. It might be worthwhile checking if high speed electricity is available in your area? Let me know how you get on with that.

Does it have a spinning disc???
If you want cheap power, drill a tiny hole in the case and insert a toothpic to drag on the wheel,it takes little friction to stop it = free power, its how the hydroponic houses get away with not getting noticed. You just need to know roughly when the meter gets read as they look for toothpics
