Maybe it is. Google "infant left in car dies".
From the local media
"General motors has fitted a device to its US based large SUV that alerts drivers to check the back seat before they leave the car."
So this is going to reduce the number of children that are left in cars in hot weather?
So when people leave the children in the back seat of a parked vehicle, they have forgotten they were there?
Or is that just what they tell the authorities after the incident?
Maybe they would be better off with an audible temperature alarm with a sensor in the rear of the vehicle that is set to activate at maybe 26 degrees?
My opinion may be a bit harsh, but i recon if you 'accidentally' leave a child in the back seat of a vehicle, you are not responsible enough to have children at all.
What will be next??
Just my 2cents worth.

Thought this was funny. Now I wonder if it would work if the kids were dressed to match the upholstery ? Brings a new dimension to " Where's Wally ? "
Just another alarm that will be ignored.
one of my favourite soapbox topics is driver education.
if automobile drivers had to understand , study and pass a theory exam on vehicle dynamics , just as aeroplane pilots have to do to get their aeroplane license then our road tolls would reduce by about 90% and we wouldn't need any "safety " components on an automobile.
....on the other hand , theres nothing can be done about morons who leave children in cars.
Maybe they are boasting about how big the SUV is. Big enough to get lost in. Dead right about kids and pets in cars. With all the publicity and incidents in the past few years, you would have to be dense or irresponsible to do it. There was another one this week in Bridgetown W.A. A 16 month baby, left in a car on a 37 degree day, while 'mum' ( i use that word loosely ) took her shift at the local pub. The local 'bobbies' got the bub out and to a hospital in time.

My Discovery Sport shows on the dash which seats are occupied and should have seat belts on with an audio alarm if one is not connected. However when I put a child seat in the back it shows that the seat belt is connected, whether or not the child is in the seat. The child doesn't have to be strapped in. It sort of defeats the reason for having the dash warning.
