    Old Pacific Highway

Anybody know if the old road is still trafficable from Bangalow to Chinderah, via Murwillumbah and Burringbah Ranges? It would be an excellent ride. If so, how do you get onto it?

It's been a couple of years since we drove it. Not sure how from the Nth, maybe just go to Murwillumbah and get on it from there. We went from Burringbar north.

That misses Burringbah Ra and Crabbes Ck. I can find it from either end but it seems to be missing a chunk through Tyagarah swamp.

Ian, if you get a chance, give the old Pacific Highway from Gosford over the old Hawkesbury bridge and up to Hornsby a try. It would be a great ride on a bike!!!

Think you're talking about route 40 known as the Tweed Valley Way. Its on maps and I've driven parts of it. If you get onto Google Maps it is there.

Tweed Valley Way is the northern end, about Yelgun it becomes Brunswick Valley Way, it changes its name again, to Old Pacific Highway at Brunswick Heads. On the southern edge of Brunswick it disappears, to reappear just north of Tyagarah airport, Gulgan Lane seems to link the two in a roundabout way.
The old highway between Ewingsdale and Titenbar is now called Hinterland Way.

I always thought that too, Jim and the Putty. I might have to come down next winter and get the spelling Ninja out.

AFAIR the old highway goes into Brunswick heads then rejoins the new highway a couple of ks south.

The new highway follows the old highway over mcleods Shute and then along the ridge and down into the swamp.
There are major major road works around Mcleods Shute at the moment with tunnels through being completed .
So the answer is that currently in that area the new road follows the old road but that will soon change.
You can get off to the old road at Moobal.
