Anybody arranged surface freight from the UK?

I'm trying to find a viable option to get a machine component over here from the UK, a dividing head for a milling machine- weighs about 45kg and the crate would be around 300x300x450mm in size (thats 12"x12"x18" for those of my own generation). Air freight operators are just way too expensive, I tried to get onto a shipping agent but none that I could find were interested in dealing with a non-business entity (i.e. a private customer).
Wondering if anyone on here has had any experience with arranging surface freight from the UK?

Sea freight is cheapest option but would take around 4-5 weeks depending on route , i could get an airfreight quote for you.

Yep sea freight is what I'm wanting to arrange, there's no hurry to get the thing just want to keep costs down. I've had a quote of $376 for air freight which makes the acquisition a non-goer. I have been unable to find a sea freight option so far.

Cheapest option I could find recently was for a large 55kg box and it was done with pack and send but it was almost 600 bucks to get it here. I think you will struggle to get much cheaper than you have already found.

Ask a friendly local business near you to get a freight quote to their address. I once had to freight a D2 bumper bar across Australia and my local Bursons branch manager did it easily. Less than half the price of a pack-n-send quote too, which was the only other company that would touch it.

2 other suggestions, try e-go couriers which cuts the cost if you pick it up from their depot and drop it off, but not sure if they do overseas. The other option is talk to landbitz a AULRO qld based landy parts supplier who regularly brings in a container of stuff from uk and has asked several times in the past if anyone wants a special order or to help fill their container to pay a part of costs.

Thanks very much guys, will follow up all those options. I emailed a swag of agents this morning and so far the only reply has been one refusal.

Maybe ask one of our friendly UK members if someone can pick it and take it to freight company

Last june/July I was shipping considerable volume through Schenker via sea and land exiting from the UK and Italy. I had to do some additional paperwork for them to allow a person rather than business. If you want more information I can chase up the specific details tomorrow. Overall the experience was flawless.
