I live on my own, but with 4 pugs, Foxtel doesn't keep them quiet unfortunately, when there's clapping or screaming on TV the pugs start barking and run to the front door.

I've met your pugs. They're too cute to squash., so you'll have to spend more quiet time on AULRO, but then that could drive you nuts as well.
    Cheers, Billy.

Part of the issue here and many places was the timing of the outage. We run our entire network over 4G due to having no wired connection available in the country. Losing all internet access from 4pm is diabolical when you have a barrage of stuff to email out before COB. We were also waiting on a bunch of replies to queries & info sent out through the day. Not planning to be in the office this morning meant it was all the more important to wrap up these things yesterday afternoon.

We pay a ****load for 4G data for the business so when it's not there at a critical point in the day, for four hours or so, no amount of free data on a Sunday can make up for that.

Most commercial operations are now internet dependent. To say that people spitting the dummy about lost internet for a few hours are overreacting is unfair as it has a similar effect to losing power only it's more frustrating.

In my job, and because of where I am, I spend a lot of time DR planning, for example we assess what disruptions are tolerable and what are not. So we have dual Internet feeds, one VSAT, one mobile carrier based, payroll is fully mirrored 5 km from the Office.

If you can't afford to be without, you need to plan for when the **** hits the fan,or accept it's cheaper to bear the pain.

My comments are not directed at this forum, but rather the business community in general

Easy to say, but you need to realise that for many people there is literally no alternative to Telstra mobilenet. While this more to rural areas, there are pockets where this applies in most metropolitan areas.

Certainly though, those who really have no alternative need to modify their business to take this into account. In many cases though this would mean moving to a different location, which often would really mean shutting down. But if there is a way to make alternative arrangements, such as having a standby temporary office elsewhere this should be looked at.

Recent experience with Telstra mobile does suggest that it is not as reliable as claimed in the past.

    telstra mobile outage

I'm literally working in a remote part of western nsw and have had to use hotspot off of my work server to get any access. I have had no data access on my phone now for nearly 3 weeks yet others have had no issues what so ever. I'm a wee bit far away to just call in to the Telstra shop to throw my phone through the front window. About to lose it soon!

I suspect it's going to get worse before it gets better, the rate of change and the data volumes is scary, glad I'm not trying to glue it together.
But when Telcos/ banks connect essential equipment like ATM to the same network as consumers watching Netflix, it's a race to the bottom.
How many would pay a premium for a premium service, oh wait, that used to be Telstra.
