Must have been all this rain that prevented it from ever working again!
Whole camp woken up in shock 3-4am. Sounded like the trees in the jungle around us were exploding. Sharp reports like gunfire and louder.
We all stayed up til the morning light, then only dared to investigate. A herd of wild elephants had blazed a trail of their own through the jungle. Path of destruction clearly visible. Only 20m from our campsite. No doubt they scented our presence - thankfully they didn't determine any need to move us on.
(In the jungle it's elephants we fear crossing paths with the most)
Wow, for a minute there I thought you were complaining about my midnight toilet break:p
Don't see the problem. The person that built this contraption is obviously a ****wit and it gave people the fright of their life. I would have taken it apart and made inoperable.
Yeah, the last thing you want people thinking is that there's a Jemaah Islamiyah training camp nearby.
The last 2 High Plains trips I've done ( just back from Wonnangatta Howqua Mt Stirling) we have had both horses & Deer having their say during the night, plus assorted weird noises like a screaming owl or similar.
Earplugs & a few decent nightcaps help :)
Probably a deer hunter wailing. You know the guy who took the wrong calibre amo for his rifle and saw the biggest stag of all times :D I wonder if they had a trail camera up to get your visit :wasntme:
Memories - I was camped in a swag on a mountain top in the Vic high country above the clouds when a saxophone started from a ridge line a few kilometres away- so much cooler than your find and the sax did not seem to bother the deer either. I have been woken by stags fighting a few times now. Got to love the weird stuff we find and experience in the bush.
Another time was camping with mates in a rain forest. This time in Oz.
We all drifted off to sleep, sleeping under the stars. Some weird hour of the night we were all awakened by panicked yelling by one of the guys. Scared the heck out of us - his screaming out.
He woke thinking of going for a wee walk. As the fire had burned down to dark embers there was little light. But he could clearly see dozens of red/orange glowing eyes in the forest all around us - and it freaked him out
Of course it was just glow-in-the-dark bracket fungi on the tree trunks doing its glow-in-the-dark thing!
Sure he hadn't been nibbling other fungi :D
