Back in the 70s some friends and I owned a Steam Tug. One day we tied up to the wharf at Millers Point, connected our Fire Hose to the Hydrant ind filled our Fresh Water Tanks. An MSB Port Officer walked up and said "You can't just take water like that. You'll have to pay for it. "How much?" We asked. "How much did you take?" He asked. "Three Ton." We said. "That'll be Three Cents thanks." He said with his hand out. I wish I had kept the receipt.
Very interesting figures Dr Rok, certainly the comparison of pump price with cost of living inflation makes a point.
Another issue would be the changes in tax on fuel over the decades. Stripping out the taxes would produce interesting results, I think.
I remember being surprised when fuel hit 30 cents a litre. Those were the days when V8s ruled.
Of course, if we want cheap fuel we should move to Saudia Arabia.
That's a good point Mick about the effect of fuel excise. Now I just need to find some figures, though for a long while it was pegged at a flat rate before being indexed to the cpi again a couple of years ago.
Cheers
Steve
Compared with NZ, fuel is cheap here. I was in Queenstown last week and paid $1.88/litre for 91 RON ULP.
Fuel is 95.3/l for 91 RON ULP at my local - I saw that today.
