    A decent size gear

Doing a rebuild on a approx 6 tonne gear box. The hammer is for scale. It is a no hit slide fit ( after a few hours of polishing shaft and bore )

I'll have a look on Sunday whilst I'm there. Gotta love watching all the old gear working.
Have to say though, can't say I've seen anything that big with gear teeth on it. I will be searching.

I think there are 2 sugar mills left in Queensland , steam driven, with gears that make that one look like a baby.

First of lets see now. It is a gear box for a clay working machine. Clay mix goes in and is extruded out through a die as bricks. Up to 90 tonnes per hour. So a whole lot of force involved. The sledge was for getting it of the shaft when first fitting it. Not so much a tight fit, just a tad heavy to get moving. The shaft where the gear fits is 8 15/16 " diameter. One of the gear box main bearings is 14 9/16" out size diameter. The odd imperial sizes are a give away as to where the machine is from. They do love there sixteenth sizes. Spent today machining and fitting the tapered key.

mmm , now you say it I think I've seen those gears on clay pugs.

they are probably in most clay brick and tile factories.
