Poor horse, looks rather nasty.
Recently our neighbour let the neighbour on the other side use his paddock (next to ours) to graze his horses. One of my mares decided she did not like one of his and tried to kick it through the fence.
Not a good idea.
I dont think she will try that again.

Not unusual to see that sort of thing where wire fences divide unfamiliar horses. If you want to try to avoid it, put up a temporary electric wire or tape a couple of metres off your boundary. We try to avoid using barb at all these days. Sparks offer better control without so much risk of damage.
Farm gates with 8"x4" weld mesh panels are also hazards where there are shod horses on each side. They'll reach out with a front foot, putting it through the mesh. It catches on the wire as they pull it back causing deep nasty expensive wounds. Covering such gates with heavy rabbit netting solves that one.
Don.
Looks like a nasty bit of infection set in there![]()
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
where are you 123rover50?
have the wounds been dressed?
Plenty of antibiotics (penicillin and gentamycin until you get good granulation over wound. Once granulation tissue forms, trim the edges so the skin can grow over. Don't forget a tetanus toxoid booster.
Really?? Thats not what it looks like in the photos...looks like a reasonable amount of infection with pus.
A vet should be looking at that leg it should not be left to nature![]()
