    The end of practicality

If I look around, the latest SUVs or 4WDs are all starting to follow a design style that has abandoned practical considerations.
Visibility has been sacrificed, and delegated to electronic warning devices.
User space has had to bow to streamlining and fashion.
The LandRover has also succumbed to this, look at the RR Sport, the Discovery Sport, the LR Evoque, now over-capable on-road vehicles.
For a practical 4WD from LR we can only hope the new Defender will retain it's designated purpose.
    Comments please?..

    Re: vis

For me, driving a disco is like sitting in a cave compared with the view from an early RRC.

Sure I'll die in a rollover, but just maybe I can see enough to avoid one.

    cheers, DL

Not in this case I don't think as both the Disco's and Deefers are excellent when it comes to practicality - they both have huge squared off backs to allow for maximum capacity - something that we won't see again I don't think - the OP is spot on, looks and aerodynamics over practicality.

Oi! I had a "Soft Top" Defender 20 odd years ago.
Well, partial soft top really as there wasn't much canvas left. A nicer term would be "A Multiple Sun Roofed Defender"

There all stupid looking hairdresser cars ( Fashion over functionality). Just look at all the sedans and stationwagons there days. I'm a scrawny runt about 6' tall. I don't fit in the back seat of most sedans or wagons these days as the roofs cut down low at the back.

    eg: commonbore wagon

    big on the outside.

    TINY on the inside.

Now lets go back to an era where they made decent cars. The old family wagon sitting in my shed.

Pretty right ?? About a sleek and fashionable as a shoe box.

Similar leg room in the rear seat to the tiny inside commonbore..... there is a bloody big "BUT" though.

that is the 3rd row of seats. The 2nd row would have twice the space of the commonbore "family wagon".

3rd row is similar to the commonbore

THe boot is still big, wide and high, even with all 3 rows of seats being used. You can fold them down and have a space long enough to sleep in.

Now everyone needs a 3.5 ton **** tank to fit there 2.5 kids in Insanity right ?
