There was a story in the Herald Sun a few years back about a Kooka that used to hang around back yard barbies.
It got so fat that it could no longer fly. It got taken in by some animal refuse and put on a strict diet to get the weight down.
We get a lot of Kookas here and love it. Never fed them as yet.

I knew someone who had so many birds on their property (because they fed them) that you couldn't walk down the back yard without an umbrella to keep the droppings off yourself.
I remember as a kid having family BBQ picnics down at Bobbin Head and there was a family of Kookas that would swoop down and take snags, uncooked off the plate or cooked off the BBQ as soon as you turned you back.
Funny watching them beat the snag like it was a snake. maybe just tenderizing it a bit more. The more well done they were the better they liked them.
For the last few years,Kookas have been trying to breed in an ant nest in an old iron bark in our front yard.
Seems once the eggs have been laid,a possum takes over the nest they have pecked out of the ants nest and i find the eggs on the ground:(
This year i hosed the possum a few times and it disappeared,only to return a week or so later:mad:
Be wary with the magpies. About 2 years ago I had a semi self inflicted plague of the bastards, http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-ch...magpie+problem . I'm now down to about 1/2 a dozen still hanging around.
The magpies have never worried us they have been here for about 5 years. This year they move the nest to another tree as they lost there first baby. Found it at the bottom of the tree, and the year before a car hit there baby. Had buried them. As soon as they see you at the back door they come running up to you, that if they are in the garden. We only had the 7 kookas this morning;) Heather
