    With apologies to D Mackellar...

    I love a sunburnt country,
A land of RED DUST plains,
    Which gets into the upholstery,
And the duco is never clean again.

    Caveat Emptor.
    Cheers, Dale

wow, I'm glad I asked the question. Inside a lightbulb? That's insane.

If it gets inside a lightbulb I'd imagine it goes through air filters and into engines. I don't like the sound of red dust grinding away at the big end bearings or building up static around the multiple ECUs.

    Red Dust?
    Wonderful stuff!
Especially when you have driven through a couple of hundred meters of red bull dust.
Every bump you hit for the next 6 months & a cloud of dust comes out behind the car.
Nearly as much fun as Black Mud!

What I think you may all be missing is that it is very likely to be an inland vehicle - which means it is less likely to be rusty, although this is more important for older vehicles.

Usually means the owner wasn't too concerned about cleaning and translates to the same attitude with maintenance.

Red dust from some parts is very helpful in the corrosion process, bauxite in the top end played merry havoc with cars, aircraft and just about everything, although the climate aided this too.

If the vehicle has a lease/mining/ commercial history= probably better to steer away.
Private history = buyer beware, may pickup a good vehicle that's simply dirty.

There's a fair chance your correct John, but unless you know the exact vehicle history one can never be sure.
