Eevo wasn't your truck a fuel tanker? Or am I thinking of someone else? I would rather have 70l of lpg in tig welded certified tanks well away from crash ingress than long range petrol tanks in my sills!! Especially when there are reports on here of rough road fractures of those petrol tanks. i saw the other day that my stock lr plastic petrol tank had a deep scratch that concerns me....hardly safe as a stock component. Lpg systems also have 2 solenoids that require power and ign on to open - one at the tank and one in the engine bay. Very over engineered safety with LPG. I am risk adverse having spent my life examining the causes of misfortune causing personal injury and i happily have my family travel in 2 vehicles on LPG.

    Cheers

Aah, yes I was right to suspect your 'information" came from there. I've known the boys at TRS since before you were sentinent and have installed plenty of LPG kits for them. I've taken their opinions on board and respected their experience. And note that LPG fires are primarily due to poorly fitted under bonnet bits, not the LPG tanks. Sequential vapour injection doesn't suffer the same problem and is no different to petrol injection.

And also if you think that the selection of cars in a brand specific wrecking yard is an accurate cross section of the general vehicle population I have a bridge to sell you...

The tanks are owned by the energy companies supplying the gas,, otherwise they'd all have BP logo's on them,,
What do you think the life expectancy of a large LPG tank is?
    100 years?

i dont think i ever said it was the tanks. i just said cars on lpg.
i also didnt say talk to the guys at TRS

its quite different. its stored under pressure. when released it expands about 200 times by volume. i cant remember why this is significant.

Which is why there are so many safety devices fitted to LPG systems, unlike petrol which is stored in tin cans or plastic buckets. Only a complete fool would try to drive an LPG vehicle with all the safety devices disabled so they're not really of any concern to me. I've installed around 1000 full systems and probably repaired 2000 more over 30 years, how many have you worked on?

Oh and if you want an example of a really stupid LPG device, look at this:

LPG Adaptor Male POL TO Male Acme CAR Fitting With 1 5M Hose IN Between | eBay

Allows you to fill an unrestrained household LPG cylinder inside the boot of your old banger. Just as bad as carrying petrol in old oil drums with leaky seals. Darwin award devices, not to be confused with industry best practice!

    lol @ fuel tanker.
its not the LPG tank thats the problem. its the lines in the engine bay that rupture during a crash or i dont know why (old age?)
once its out it rapidly expands, its no longer liquid, its just PG, lol. its just propane and butane.

anyways, with the CFS ive attended about 50 car fires. 40 of them not actually on fire. of the remaining 10, 7 were on lpg, 2 were diesel (both semis) the last one petrol.

i know its a small sample size but lpg defiantly over represents.

would you avoid a petrol car due to th risk?

Its odd because of the dual solenoids.

I would prefer diesel for safety then LPG then petrol.
