    Heads up for diabetics.

The government has stopped funding to the NDSS https://www.ndss.com.au/ from July and will be transferring all orders and supplies to your local pharmacy.
Most suppliers and also staff are advising to get at least 2 months supply stores as it is looking to be a shambles.
Pharmacists do keep insulin and needles, but the different testing strips, the specific site changes and equipment for pumps and other consumables normally draw a blank stare from the counter with the response last week ," we know nothing about that" and another said" to keep a shelf of these items will cost the supplier $200/week"!and at best is a 2 week wait if you order it.
With 2 of my kids type one, we knew that the NDSS shop in town had all the things we needed, a vast majority of chemists have little to no stock of testing strips, no stock of site changes or keytone strips . We are lucky to be able to afford to stash 2-3 months worth of supplies, others may not be in the same position.
With type 1 diabetes, insulin is needed to stay alive. Yet we get charged for it. To correctly manage levels ,which results in a better life for the diabetic, you need to test or be on a CGM. The CGM whilst expensive ( about $500/ month)pays for itself in reducing hospital time and long term complications that will cost far far more, but again not supported.

The Americans will have to be dragged kicking and screaming into a health system that benefits them, and we will be dragged kicking and screaming into one that doesn't benefit us, if the ideologues get their way.
    Cheers, Billy.

Phew ! Dodged that one didn't we ! - WE being the Type TWO diabetics out there...

Well, think again... Got some news for you and it's all ...bad.

IF you blindly, faithfully follow the conventional eating/lifestyle protocols and medical 'advice'.... you will, if you live long enough... end up on supplementary INSULIN injections. Don't believe me? - Look up Diabetes Australia and read between the lines... - Managing Type 2 Diabetes.
"Diabetes is a progressive disease..." - the best kind for the 'Industry'.... because, you see, it 'requires' LIFETIME Medical Management...GP visits, $pecialist Appointment$... and lots of repeat medications... doesn't matter who pays, NDSS or YOU...the INCOME for the 'Diabetes Industry' is assured.

    Ka-ching. - aptly described...

Regardless of the alternative approach to Type 2, IF you're unfortunate enough to have already progressed...or are well down that road...and aren't getting off it in the foreseeable future... then this warning is timely.
No, you DO have my understanding... - Been there-Done that.

There IS a better way... somewhat like what we Land Rover forumites do... LEARN the car and it's foibles, work with it, ON it... properly understand it... Usually better than the Factory-Approved Dealer Mechanics

Whether WE get our hands dirty or pay a workshop to repair...WE do the thinking and make the final decisions. There is no sense in handing over a blank credit card authorisation.. abrogating our responsibilities... and then staunchly 'Defending' whatever rubbish the Authori$ed Dealer $ee$ fit to inflict on you...

    - Or complaining about it...

    - Nothing wrong with consulting with and taking advice from others,
Experts' or our peers, - we do it all the time here... - How do you think my EAS was fully fixed and is still working?- and without going near a '$tealer'.

I've taken this approach with my own health, and so far it's working a treat...

In the interim, there's always the Internet, as well as off-shore suppliers..

Edit:- Apologies for the terrible pun... the word just blithely walked into it...

Starter kit with a receiver is in the order of $1600 in Aust.

    Products – AMSL Diabetes

For me is too expensive for what it does but may be worthwhile for type 1s.

I wonder if health Insurance might? My mum gets a Vic state government care package which help with the medical bills. I think it would have ongoing costs which could be an issue.

Every time I am near people who have highs or lows it can be very difficult. Not nearly as difficult for me as the person having the high or low.

I got my dexcom g5 a couple of days ago, its bloody amazing.
Due to covid 19, and some of the new construction projects not being able to start, the government sent me a health care card. Best gift from them ever.
