A tricky question. The views expressed all depend on the teller.
My friend's grandson spent three months in a spinal cage learning to walk again after being hit by a car where the driver was doing 90 kph. down the highway whilst texting on her phone.
I dare say my mate is not keen on mobiles in cars!!
Peter.
Texting whilst driving is foolish and very dangerous indeed. Using the phone to talk whilst watching the road with intention to drop the phone right away if needed is another thing.
I do take calls if safe to do so in the car, but on empty roads, not driving round town or changing gears or something. If I take a call it is a quick " Yes I am on my way, sorry I am driving I cant talk" conversation, not a 10 minute chat and my eyes even to pick up the phone never leave the road. Problem is I have seen people rooting around in their bag on their knee whilst driving looking for what I imagine is a ringing phone unbelievable!! Others weaving all over the road, when you pass you see they are on the phone how can they let a phone distract them so much  The laws are probably correct to protect people from themselves. To be honest the real issue is driving without due care and attention not driving using a phone as you can be on the phone and be still paying attention, but nobody can text and be paying attention to driving
Chris
im slightly disappointed. i yelled at the bloke today to get off his phone. its a distraction, plain and simple.
while driving for CFS, ive used the radio once or twice, (usually someone has the radio if im driving) ive waited for the right moment to speak and i still dont like it.
ive learnt to fly a plane and talk on the radio while looking out for other planes, and i still think its a distraction.
A lot of people don't seem to understand why a ban on using mobile phones while driving is necessary.
Of course you are able to maintain full concentration on the road while you are talking on the phone and are ready to react to any emergency. Some of you can probably even text without being distracted at all.
However there are people who are not as talented as you are and don't have your powers of concentration.
The ban is necessary to stop one of those less talented drivers losing control or failing to give way or failing to stop in time and colliding with your vehicle with potentially fatal consequences.
There are other examples of regulations which you probably accept as necessary even though you don't need the restriction they place on you. You could probably quite safely tow a trailer with a laden weight five or even ten times the weight of your vehicle. However since some other drivers don't have your skills, you have come to accept the necessity of regulations that restrict the weight vehicles can tow
That stops one of those other drivers losing control and wiping out you and your family.
While you don't need to be banned from using the phone in the car, you need to be protected from other drivers who aren't capable of giving their full attention to the task of driving when they are on the phone.
:)
It would be much cheaper to install Bluetooth. The notion of putting Phone blocker in cars is just bloody ridiculous anyway. Can't be policed effectively. Would interrupt the service of every one it passed in the street. Too expensive to implement. Can be made superfluous by Blue tooth.
No more than a political stunt.
Yep, Bluetooth is the go. Works fine in our Mazda.
even with bluetooth, someone talking in your ear is distracting.
