Want to continue the adventure in wet driving ? Get a set of really old Olympic steel treks. Only has to be a forecast of rain and they slip.

I know what Aquajet Tyres are.
Used to come standard on Jaguar XJ6's
They were a good tyre for the time.

This may well be the reason that a certain country GP I knew (last century) boasted that he'd never-ever bought a tyre in his life... changing his Jag every one to two years... always before the start of Winter... as you do...

I remember the first New tyres I ever bough, for $19.99 each. Olympic Air Ride (x-ply) smoooth ride, lasted forever, quiet-as, - and truly terrifying in the wet. One brake application was enough !

    - Imitated the good Doctor and traded up to a '69 Crown, with KLEBER V-10 radials. Not too bad in the wet, from memory.
Back then the best wet tyres I used were Kleber V12 steels, same performance (average) wet/dry/snow, utterly predictable was their virtue and the reason you're stuck with me !

Yes you ARE "matured"... Bet you recall the Mini-Coopers that put on a set of Dunlops every Winter...and ran them for the next 12 months. Even when worn down, the compound was enough to keep you glued to the road,. Not that tread mattered at the end of Summer/Autumn. Back then the climate was civilised, and Autumn was merely cooling... Never rained till Winter started...the day after you put new tyres on.

PS, My 4x6 box trailer still has a pair of 'Air-Rides' on it... still hold air, round, balanced, track true and minimal perishing from the Sun.

These take me back few years, having used them both. The V10s were poor cousins of the V12s but lasted longer.

My V10' s were "Cablon" belted, a fancy name for a fibreglass.

Essentially a 'rag-radial' on steroids, softer and quieter ride than steel-belted. Mine took a savage hammering, merciless motoring on gravel/limestone of the Nullabor's unsealed section in South Aust.
Never had a puncture on a V10.....which is more than I can say about every other Steel-Belted Radial I've owned since...

The V12 were supposed to be the ants pants... but mine suffered from some noise, and out of round on a couple.
But wet/dry characteristics were very close... A bit grippier than the V10 which was a nicer & quieter riding tyre.

    - But what else would you expect from the French ?

I've still got a set on my Mini. When they were new, they were known as "Aquaskis".

I recall the fibreglass now that I'm reminded - thanks.

If you had the front diff working, instead of being a drag, when the back end lost traction the front would have kicked in and probably got you out of trouble, regards Frank.
