The torch came with Ultrafire Li Ions...i have never used them. Instead i bought Panasonic Li Ion batteries with the buillt in PCB boards that the Ultras dont have...no China Syndrome for my head. (I also use a Nitecore D4 LiOn charger.
These batteries are sent by air mail all over the world...makes you wonder.
Cheers
I don't know much about Li-on batteries. I think they are more expensive but also safer. That's why they are used in mobile phones and the like.
Also most airlines have band flying with Lipo batteries and it's not permitted to send them via airfreight in Australia. Most don't permit to fly with them international for that matter it's just places like china don't care.
Happy Days
My 18Volt Ryobi lithiums have been charged and discharged to cut out literally hundreds of times over a 3 year period.
As long as they have discharge and overcharge protection they are the ducks gutz.

I dont know much about batteries but i found this:

The main difference seems to be the electrolyte. Apparently li-po batteries are inherently safer, but im not sure if thats the case in practice, with overcharging circuits and such.
