Excuse my ignorance - what is click bait?
ie what negative affect does it have on me for clicking a link?
Excuse my ignorance - what is click bait?
ie what negative affect does it have on me for clicking a link?
Clickbait is a pejorative term describing web content that is aimed at generating online advertising revenue, especially at the expense of quality or accuracy, relying on sensationalist headlines or eye-catching thumbnail pictures to attract click-throughs and to encourage forwarding of the material over online social networks. Clickbait headlines typically aim to exploit the "curiosity gap", providing just enough information to make the reader curious, but not enough to satisfy their curiosity without clicking through to the linked content.
bob posts a lot of clickbait links in WC

Fancy having to see that someone has different tastes to your own, how upsetting it must be for you.Wouldn't it be nice if the web could be censored so that only items that you approve of are published.
For those using decent quality devices to view AULRO, just hovering the cursor over Bob's posts makes the link visible and saves you the hassle of clicking on what you've already read about elsewhere. I'm quite happy for this arrangement to continue.![]()
I disagree that it is click bait, but even if it was, there is no issue with it. As I said before, if you aren't interested, don't look - simple. There is overwhelming support for the WC here in this thread - you are one of only a few that disagree with the majority - funny about that hey?![]()
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

sometimes that click bait as you call it brings up some dam interesting tidbits of info
the vast majority of what is posted there is of no consequence to me but i wouldn't be easily talked into removing it because of the few gems that i have seen because it was posted in there...

My original questions have been answered.
It seems that it has been around for long enough for people to form an opinion, so it probably was worth having the conversation.Has the Walrus Club been running for long enough now to give an indication of how necessary it is?
Is it time to have a polite discussion about whether it is worth retaining?
One consequence is that some misconceptions seem to have been cleared up.
While there are a range of views, it is obvious that some people would be disappointed to see it go. They have convinced me.
BTW, bee utey, The Walsus Club is a subforum of The Walrus Club especially designed for people who are careless typists and who tend to proof read the content of their posts, but forget to proof read the title.
I did actually spot it last night, but by then the time allowed to edit the post had elapsed.![]()
