I saw a bloke on a demolition site using a chainsaw to cut corrugated iron,it was working really well:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:.
I had a chat with him after as I wanted to know how.He sharpens the teeth at 90deg instead of the usual 28 to 32deg.It was fair ripping thru the tin,didnt appear to be out of control either.

I'm surprised they still sell 9" grinders. Construction sites won't allow them, and most workplaces have a specific clause in their insurance, voiding cover, if a 9" grinder is used. The largest in our workshop is 125ml.

My team use a 9" grinder for grinding only......a 5" just wouldn't get the job done.
I agree most workplaces have banned cutting with a 9" ours as well.
Never heard of specific clauses in insurances. While we pay into work cover I don't believe they have any clauses with our company. We self insure for everything else.
On large construction sites (at least in Melbourne), 9" grinders are banned.Quote:

Just 20 mins ago i was using my 5inch grinder with a twisted wire wheel cleaning loose rust of my last rear leaf spring. The wire wheel hit the centre bolt and the grinder flew back at me and hit my very loose fitting cotton work shirt. The shirt was grabbed and the grinder immediatly stalled as it pulled the trigger out of my hand and the shirt wrapped around it. Tore a great hole in the shirt but no damage to me thanks to loose fitting shirt. Think i dodged one that time. Leather apron next time i think.

On a building site many years ago a bloke was using an impact drill to drill holes in a concrete slab to chemset in some seat legs. This was the days of flares and while the smoke in the side of the mouth was running smoke into his eye, he failed to notice that the bit had grabbed the flare and proceeded to twist this and start to run up his leg.
As was the usual method, he had the button in to hold the trigger on. He was screaming pretty loud as the material started cutting into his calf and knee and panicked not being able to stop the drill. I managed to grab the cord and pull it out of the extension lead. Luckily he did not have it looped to stop it from pulling out. They had to take him to the hospital to have the trousers pulled out of his leg and clean the upper rear section of the seat of the pants as well
