    Detriot locker

    Hello.
    Is there a Detroit locker to suit a 1998 4.6 P38a rear diff ?

If so, do the axles need to be changed ?

    Thanks.

I'd say yes and no. I think a selectable locker is a better option though, available from both Ashcroft and ARB.

It should be, and yes re upgrading the axle shafts. A Detroit is a 'Fit and forget' item. Once used to it I think they run rings around lockers because you can still turn when needed, and you don't need extras to work it. Re the shafts, upgrade is recommended as the way a Detroit works, all the load will often be on only one shaft. For shafts, look at HyTuff or Ashcroft.

I'd favour a Detroit in the rear axle and a TruTrac in the front over air or electric lockers any day. Cheers.
