Here is an Real Estate advertisement for one that sold in our district.
This was originally an underground fuel storage facility for the No. 2 OTU (Operational Training Unit) RAAF Station for Fighter Pilots during WW2.

Oddly enough the trouble we are having with the local council is that one of the conditions to get approval to build a house is that it must look like a house.

Apparently a doorway in a hill is not what the local planners think a house should look like.

Tell them to go to Coober Pedy - the whole town looks like that.
