This is a cold climate wine. Probably as cold as my ex girlfriends heart. Actually, scratch that. She had no heart. Bitch.
What this means for the chavs amongst us is that the cold climate reds have more acid in the finished product than the warm climate reds, due to the way the grape ripens towards the harvest. The acid is not full-onski, so don't top off that landy battery just yet...
The boffins say there is blackcurrant, mint, chocolate and earth. IMO, it tastes a bit 'whiney', but I can't get the earth ... maybe because I've got high expectations, having once scored front row seats at the Tuff Truck mud run (that was some primo, A-grade earth)
At 14.5% alcohol, I would recommend this wine be drank before, during or after anything. Bottoms Up!
Accepted wisdom states that, if you have a range of alcoholic beverage of varying quality and you intend to consume a good amount of it, you should begin the best stuff first. That way you can actually appreciate it and remember it.:D:D:DQuote:

At $2.89 a bottle you can't afford not to! We generally get a bottle of this tasty oven cleaner from the mother in law when she comes to visit. She's a gem! I used to use it for cooking but i find it more useful, and less harmful, if i don't.
On the nose you get cherry, mixed with a sweet, acidic note not unlike what i imagine the breath of an Alien smells like right before it's little head-tongue punches a hole into your brain - the morning after a bottle definitely feels like it. On the palate the wine sits until it melts your tastebuds off, which is about when you really start enjoying yourself!
Competitive alternatives consist of gossips (as previously reviewed by TA) and premium unleaded, at $1.40 for a 1L bottle.
Overall rating: 95 octane

My brother emptied a grange about 20 yrs ago, he now refills the bottle with anything red and presents it to gullible people he invites for dinner.
He says they wax on lyrical about the virtues of the wonderful wine even though they are drinking plonk.
He has not confessed to anyone yet....but I know.
Having drunk all the Ned Kelly Tawny, I started on the Maleny Tawny last Saturday night. First I had a long sip. Then I lit the fire. Another long sip followed. Then I let the dogs sleep next to the fire. Another sip. Stoked the fire ... etc. Now I need to buy another bottle. Guess where I will be located this coming Saturday evening?
