I expected it to fail too, which is why I did it first thing this morning.
After 20+ tries online, over several hours, I gave up and went down the old fashioned path of pen and paper.
Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster didn't fit for Religion, so I compromised and put down Pastafarian. Am hoping this out-polls Jedi this time.
We did it the old analogue way, paper that is, with a penThere is only few questions to answer. My main gripe is that all it is is getting the peasants to do the bureaucrats work for them. It is just collating data that they already have but is in different departments. Tax has our earnings., Vic roads has how many vehicles we own etc etc. Should send them a bill for my time.

What a disaster.... We all completed the form on line and then the system went down and everything was lost. 2 hrs later I still can't get on and family have gone their seperate ways.
Memo to self insist they paper next time
Cheers
Steve
At 11am it took me all of 15 minutes to fill in the Q's online for our 3 family members. Some of the info I entered might not be 100.00% accurate but my care factor is not particularly high...
And the questions refer to what would normally happen at your residence, so hiding in a far flung creek bed for the night doesn't actually change anything.![]()
Media reports say it a massive crash and many people annoyed.
Just a total schemozzle. And they claim they can protect our data from hackers. As if...

The ABS System crashed
Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!!
You could see that coming
Which is why I chose the paper option.
Nothing worse than online forms failing then having to start over from the start.
The pen is mightier than the keyboard.
Hey, just a minute , I'm using a keyboard for this message.
Damn, there goes another theory.![]()
There's a big difference between a crash due to over demand and keeping information protected. I don't see what all the fuss is about - the governments computer systems already have all your details on it - kept forever, not just a few years like this one will. You think the Tax department doesn't know everything about you and have your name and address on multiple servers accross the country (and probably the world). Every had ANYTHING to do with Centrelink? All your personal details are on their systems too - forever, not ever wiped once you don't need them again. Every been involved in the legal system? If so, your details are on Police and Court servers too - forever. The ABS has used computers for years to store their data on and I haven't see the world end yet - this time, the data just gets entered by you and me, rather than someone paid to punch a keyboard all day.
Lots of paranoid androids floating around... It happens every Census, there's just more online opportunities for the tin foil hat brigade to make themselves heard.
The only reason I don't like the census being online is because of what everyone knew would happen with the system being being unable to cope with the volume. It's still down this morning - this was of no surprise to anyone I don't think.
