Daphne about six months old with her favorite toy.

Her first litter: Denison is on the left.

    My sympathy to you Diana.

I suspect I may be coming up for something similar in the not too distant future - my little Ashley is fifteen. Still behaving as usual, just getting very grey round the face, perhaps slowing down a bit.

My last dog just dropped dead at twelve - vet suggested either a stroke or heart attack, but I decided that an autopsy was a waste of money.

I will also soon have to make the terrible decision of putting my 11yo Staffy down. I suppose the decision is pretty much made, as his quality of life is sliding each day. I think when a pet has to take pain killers on a twice daily basis and anti-inflammatory meds also, the time is nigh. I can honestly sympathize with you Lotz-A-Landies and all those who find themselves in similar positions.
We as humans, that are supposedly at the apex of the animal kingdom, are quickly pulled off that apex, humbled and turned into sniveling wrecks when our pets are sick and or at deaths door.
Reggie, our bear proportioned Staffy has traveled the country by plane, car and foot with us during our corporate travel days. His name and micro-chip numbers are permanently on the company travel register as he is known as my travel companion and personal protection dog. This all came about from the days of traveling the roads and tracks of the Kimberley. Most of you whom have traveled and camped beside the roads and in the bush of the Kimberley will understand why someone has a good robust dog with them when camping undertaking water searches there.
Good luck and best wishes to all those that find themselves in the terrible circumstances of losing one of the best friends a human can have....a good loyal and loving dog.

Yeah, I came in late on this Thread, so sorry to hear about your loss Diana, we went through a similar thing about a month ago when we had to have our 12 year old Japanese/ Chin named Misha euthanised. Always hard to do, but in our case Misha was suffering so we had to do it, unfortunately.

Just found this thread. Sorry for your loss Diana. 12 years 11 months is a good innings but having been there three times myself I know it's never easy. Hoping you're OK.
    Cheers, Billy.

    And then there were two

Douglas (Hamzac Raiders Rule) developed pneumonia over the last week, despite multiple visits to the vet and lots of drugs, his condition didn't improve. Overnight he'd suffered a cerebral event, was demonstrating a rt sided palsy and was unable to stand or even swallow.

This morning I had to have my final hug and say my final goodbye to Duggie. At least I was hugging him as the vet did her business and he took his final breath and beat his last beat.

I'm very sad at the moment but do have Dennis and Royce to hug.
