Landy mechanic cairns region or input seal advice

I did this exact job two days ago. Took 6 hours with me doing most of the work and a second pair of hands for the heavy lifting.

The guide studs are a must, to both remove and replace. We used a transmission jack to lower the case and raise it again to fit.

In my case, the input seal had been set flush with the face of the case, rather than pressed fully home. Difference of about a mm or so.

I was fixing a previous paid attempt...

I was paying around $450 + broken speedo sender, broken diff lock switch (the usual...) so $500 is on the money.

If someone else is doing it, stripping the interior, trans tunnel, cubby box etc, before giving it to them and refit after you get it back, will save some time.

I wouldn't like to do it without some way of lowering and lifting the case besides your arms and chest. Great way to get badly hurt.

Great tips I might have to ask for a quote with all that out of the way. Yep they are heavy buggers if I have a crack at it I'll probably get an engine crane from Kennards hire.

I went and saw Rene at the landy center in Cairns, Landy Centre Cairns - About Us.
He was booked solid for weeks and said he was considering doing some night work to catch up. He helped me out BIGTIME (even not including the lack of time he had to begin with) and had no reason to as he didnt know m from a bar of soap.
Rene is properly Land rover trained and worked for LR for many yrs and really does know his stuff.
In my own line of work I always make sure that I would be happy to send my Mum to see someone before I would refer to them.... i would have no hesitation sending my mum to the Lany centre (if she drove one).
So if anyone is looking for LR mechanic in cairns I would definitely recommend going and seeing Rene (as many others here have recommended as well)

Anyways I have no affiliation with them (just passing through town) but just wanted to give Renne a wrap for being a top bloke.
