My problems were different of course but the end result (poor workmanship and over charging) was similar.
I found the Ombudsman not a lot of help (SA) but a letter from the solicitor and a court hearing sorted things out quite quickly and in my favour.
PM me, if you like I can forward the text as written by the solicitor if that might help.

Mike
Hey Lionell how many kms on the vy? Must be over 300k to need all these bushes and struts and stuff unless u drive lots of bad roads. Im a mechanic, holden specialist (30 yrs at holden dealers), and ive never seen a vy needing so much work unless its been used and abused on bad roads or as a taxi at 500k+km. I think u were ripped off. Sure brakes wear out and so will the odd non greasable tie rod ends and boots split but to "need" all that work. Sounds like u took it to a certain suspension specialist company that has a couple brothers driving in the ARC. They always quote every bush and shocky needs replacing for upwards of $2k. Ive had mates go there and then come to me to get a quote and ive told them theres nothing wrong mostly. A suspension bush with a couple tiny cracks in the rubbers are not stuffed. Anyway some mechanics are out to get as much as they can out of ppl who think the car is ok if it starts or who know absolutly nothing about them. Im not like that with my customers. I also only work from home now, and im always knocking back work coz i got nowhere to do it now.
Ive bought a mates car when hes upgraded it coz ive serviced it for years and i know how good it is. Its now up to 370k with original engine etc. Its a VT 50th anniversary and now has lpg fitted. I sold it to my now EX and she still gets me to service it every 6 months. It still runs so sweet.
Good luck with it.
Cheers Rod

Just you guys wait until you start looking at peoples cars that have been "serviced" by specialists ....
A couple of years back I had a friends Citroen XM rock up he'd just purchased. Rheems of receipts for all the specialists work done on it over the years.
Well the front front suspension spheres (that are easy to get off) were the only spherse that were ok. Both rear suspension spheres were dead flat and the originals it left the factory with. As were all the accumulators. The hydractive spheres (the ones that get activated to give a super soft ride) .... I needed a 2 meter breakers bar to loosen ( they should be hand tight like an oil filter ).
It sure did ride nicely when it left my place thoughBest it would ahve since it was new.
It's just amazing how the mechanics choose not to do anything that takes a bit of time ... They just either charge for the replacement (that isnt' done) or say "check and fine" 'cos they can't be bothered checking.

Shane L.

when I was a hairy arse apprentice, I was sent out the bush (round trip of about 250km) to change the spark plugs in a cat d7 by the workshop foreman. The boss/owner was already out the bush. I turned up and he wanted to know what the **** I was doing out there, said I'm here to change the spark plugs in the d7, he asked who sent me and did I know what I was doing. Yep, can sort that for you, so I went and change the 2 plugs in the pilot motor. Didn't the foreman get a roasting from the boss that night.
cheers
