My mate has one as part of his contracting business, had to buy it as the local council banned slashers. I put a complete set on his about 12 months ago, they do a lot of work but need a sharpen at times. His holders were damaged by rock strike or other things not designed to cut, bikes, droppers etc. His has adjustable skids it floats on to give cutting height, really the only time its lifted is to go over rocks etc

I'll get a better photo. Where the lower links attach. They will "float" up and down the length of the housing they are sitting in. You can see the pivot point on the mower a little further back from where the lower arms attach to the 3PL. I don't quite understand why it doesn't hit the ground everywhere the other mowers do (push mowers, slasher mower, ride-on, 5foot slasher .. they all hit the ground around the septic run-off trenches for example, this thing just rolls over them somehow).Quote:

I can't even drive the range rover on the paddock for fear of it bogging/sinking (certainly it tears it up). The tractor at least has a big enough footprint not to tear the ground up badly.

I have a Chinese brand self propelled mower that I have owned for around 3 years . The other day I starter it on the 1st pull , it drove for about 2 meters then back fired & stopped & would not start. Were I bought it from is on the other side of Brisbane so decided to just take it to one of the local mower repair shops to get it fixed. I went to 3 shops all with the same reaction, when I said it was a Chinese brand , NOT WORTH FIXING , WON'T BE ABLE TO BUY PARTS . When asked if it was an Australian brand made in China no problem . The guy who imports these mowers keeps a stock of all the parts required to fix them. I then rang the supplier to ask were I could have it repaired & he emailed me a mobile mower repair man's flier . I rang this guy & told him what had happened , he said to buy a new spark plug & make sure it is an NGK & gave me the part no. The plug was the 1st I checked on the weekend & it looked OK. I fitted the new plug , 1st pull & away it went. [smilebigeye] These mowers cost around $350 compared to the Australian brands that are 3 times that amount & do a much better cut . If I get 6 years out of this mower , that works out at around $50 a year which is better value than my last Rover that lasted 6 years & didn't cut well & was always hard to start.
All these mower shops are the same these all they want to do is sell you a new mower.:thumbsdown:
Guess what time of year it is again ..... I think the grass has grown about more in the last 3days than it has in the last 6months!

One of the pedestal shafts had seized & ripped the guts out of the Ally spindle assy which then melted with the heat.
Can you believe the ball race bearings are the open type & not even sealed? Not even a grease nipple to be seen. I hope the repairer at least hand greased it before fitting.

Mine is an aussie made mower (one of the last of them). Huge single deck, 18hp motor, upgraded version of the greenfields heel/toe (wow, I'm amazed greenfield didn't sue rover over that one).... proper chassis...etc... of course, the problem with the solid axle heal toe system is the mower is hopeless at turning ... it would drive you bloody nuts ... the only real way to turn is by going backwards ( they again, if it wasn't a solid rear axle I'd be pushing the damn thing all the time as it was bogged again).Quote:

My previous mower was a COX made up in your neck of the woods, or was. Heel/toe operation which really was very good except for the adjusting. Mechanical linkages not Hydraulic, like some which was a bit of a fiddle sometimes.
Same fixed axle style. 30 point turns were the norm [smilebigeye] & skidding wheels when it was bit damp. They called it a "Compact Tractor", compact was the word, & being a 6'-er I had to drive it like I was the Hunchback of Notre Dame, except no bells or headlights, just indentations in the front where they would normally have been.
Deffo a Bowling Green ONLY mower.
The current Rover has a wonderful turning circle & I doubt it could be bettered without the risk of it rolling over on bends. Don't ask.[bigsad]
As for lights, they didn't even fit a lousy switch or link them in with any other function for them, so I ride around hoping every man & woman & their respective dog can see me safely.
