and is demand response just turning off big power users? that not finding new capacity, that forcibly reducing demand.

Not really. How much does the concept of "zero input cost" mean to you? Solar plus storage is already cheaper to build than new coal and it's only getting cheaper. Running costs are much lower when you don't have to constantly dig up filthy black crap to burn. Solar plus storage is loads easier than mining + transport + burning it to make steam + using steam to spin turbines + distributing it many hundreds of km from where the plant is.Quote:
