Only in the last couple of hours. Along the East coast, apart from Tas and Qld all states were exceeding their own supply most of the day. Cool change is rolling through now, so I'd imagine demand will fall off steeply soon. I've just switched the AC's off and we are about the last to get the change in the Melbourne area.
We had our cardies on most of the day, barely cracked 31C here today. [bigsad][bigwhistle]
And minus 31 c at my sister's place !
Our demand often outstrips supply these days. We are reliant on Basslink and SA and NSW (which is also fed from QLD) to top up now.
There’s a reason we’ve put 100MW of diesel backups in this year and that the supply authorities are very concerned. Had an enquiry for 16MW of diesel gens this week. We can supply and I’ve quoted so see how deep their pockets are and how worried they are.

Hazelwood was producing power at $0.06 per KWH when it was closed. Not saying it didn’t need to go, but it would have been nice if sufficient capacity was made available BEFORE it was shut down. Vic peaked at 8,600MW today - Hazelwood was good for 1,600 on its own - a big chunk to go missing in one hit...
