Mate, it has not happened. As you know, anyone can get on facebook,...greenies, lefties, right wing, conservatives, whatever,..and anyone can say what they like,...I do,...& I ain't been flamed yet.....disagreed with of course, but that's to be expected, & I ain't got no problem with that!.
IMHO the greenies & lefties, do-gooders etc are in the minority,....big time,....because immediately they come out with their crap, THEY are the ones that usually get howled down by an overwhelming majority.
And that's why I like F.B.,....I can say what I like,..and so can anyone else with directly opposing views,....it's an equal playing field, & thousands can see what I say,....& disagree if they like,....and I with them,.....all good.
Gotta say mate, there are some real "radicals" on there, & I don't get involved with them, but for a vigorous discussion on Aussie politics, it's very good.

I recommend you rigorously police your friends list and don't accept friend requests unless you like the person. And block the trolls.
Politically, the ALP and Greens make the best use of FB. The LNP itself is ineffective on FB, but there are a feral pack of right-wing extremists, some apparently associated with the Australian Conservatives, who are the most vicious, judging from the experiences of friends. I'm not active enough to warrant their attention myself, plus I control my feed rigorously.

I learnt a long time ago " what someone else thinks of me is none of my business". This may need some explanation. I am who I am. I am unlikely to change, apart from the personal growth that we hopefully go through. There are people who dislike me, for whatever reason. There are some here, on this forum, possibly reading this. I do not care. They can work themselves up into a lather because of something I post, but it is ONLY affecting THEM. Let them froth and fume. From where I sit, they are fools. People agree with me, or they don't. People like me, or they don't. If they do or don't means nothing. I can like someone or not. What effect does that have on them?

FB is a hideous institution. People suicide based on likes, particularly teenagers. I have numerous teenagers in my life. I want above everything else to see them reach adulthood. "What someone else thinks of me is none of my business" is a good place to start. Tell them that their life is their own. Tell them to ignore the rabble.

Agreed. That's why I strictly control my exposure on FB.
As you said, we have to come to our own decisions about our beliefs about right and wrong and stick by them.
That's why I will never vote for any political party which supports the indefinite mandatory detention of asylum seekers - it just offends everything I believe.
Anyway, this thread is way off track - sorry for my part in that.
