Even the experts continually struggle to measure the impacts correctly rather relying on assumption rather than calculation.

Conflicting models are run over and over and the simplest of facts often ignored.

Yet the marketing has people believing en-mass that Electric cars and Solar energy are a truly green solution.
Much the same as anything involving atoms is a big no no!

Reality: cleaning up Coal with scrubbers etc is quite effective and cheap and low harm... it's reliable and in the near future effective.

Subsidies for Wjnd farms etc has driven corporate greed rather than public best interest and is now costing us very dearly.

Local plants have been shut down all day as cost of power exceeds production benefits in several business units.. not good for production stability or business...

And yet we all sit here saying reducing emissions is a cracker idea whilst the world swells in population and emission production increases to suit...

What a farce it all is...

The point is, market failure is when generation is privately owned and the owners put maximising profits ahead of providing a reliable supply to meet public need.
AMEO can only try to entice private operators to sell into the market by offering higher prices.
If the system was publicly owned the spare plant would have been routinely brought online and no load shedding would have been necessary. Public good before private profits.

whats the plan for next summer?




the extra from PP is really not going to meet the gap when the 600 MW that flows from Vic to SA stops in a few weeks time with Hazelwood closing.

Mick, that kind of logic and forward thinking has no place here or in our govt. :p

So who bears the immediate cost of bringing the additional gas capacity online? The answer to where the blame lies for it not working would be there I'd imagine. I've not seen this explained in the media. Does the national regulator have an interest in it not being working?

How come no one talks about the power plant at dry creek that shakes the bejeezus out of my mates wrecking yard next door when they decide to turn it on. Its gas fired coz the pipes are right next to his back gate. Very noisy when its running.

i guess cause its small in comparison.

I think the public wants whoever is in government to put aside the stunts and point-scoring and ensure two things:
1. There is a reliable and affordable power supply.
2. Greenhouse gas emissions are significantly reduced.
I really can't see why some people seem to think those two objectives are so hard to achieve.

I saw Christopher Pyne on TV this morning having a crack at the SA govt over its power supply saying that Defence is going to have to build its own power supply for the shipbuilding contracts.

If you knew a few of the inefficiencies that were in existence in the SEC whilst in Govt ownership you may have a different view.
