    Your lawns need mowing...

Yes, not the greatest idea shutting the power station. With wind gusts that strong, the wind turbines will park, then if - in this case - when, the connection to Vic goes down, things will get dark.

Hope they get it back soon mate.

Yup no power. I got no lights here at home. Nothing to do. Cant even sleep coz need power for cpap machine. Maybe ill get the inverter out and power up cpap from newly acquired second hand 120amp deep cycle battery. Still holding 12.9volts atm. See what a happens.

    Cheers Rod.

The advice is to tune in to ABC 681. More to come.

The warning said winds of 140kph could occur in Whyalla, Clare, Maitland, Hawker and Leigh Creek, while winds of 90-100kph are forecast for Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges.

The SES has tweeted and asked people to stay at home.

I've been on the phone for half an hour to some of our big SA customers looking for generators. SA Power have told some of them they could be in the dark for days.

I hope that isn't the case for everyone over there, things will get pretty nasty after a day or so.

Hang in there, hope the powers back on soon - I'm thunking of you all.

Not the way SA is set up now. They closed thier last coal fired power station so they rely entirely on renewables and the Vic/SA interconnecter. They have a huge amount of wind power, but they would all park up in high winds and wouldn't work without the interconnecter being on line anyway - which was hit by lightning which took it out. They also have a lot of Solar too, but again, that won't work without the grid being in line (and in the dark obviously). When it's all up and running, they don't actually use a huge amount of power from Vic, but that is a weak link in the system which was exposed today.

At least they are now saying they should be back on by the early hours of tomorrow morning now.

The whys and why nots of how that all came to be can be discussed in CA - we don't want to discuss those reasons here.
