This is how to do it.
Remember that Abbott tried to abolish this renewable investment, but fortunately was stopped from slashing it by the Senate.
Many more of these are needed all over the country. This is smart, job-creating investment for the future.

The response was a swipe at the previous poster implying that he was only concerned with his own situation. Why would you say that Phillip?
IMHO a moderator is tasked with preventing this sort of personal sniping and should not succumb to the temptation to "have a go" himself .
How can a mod set a standard if he doesn't abide by it himself?

Wow I reckon I could come up with a project if about 1/3 is a grant from the Federal Government.
Of the $69 Million , 22.8 Million is an ARENA Grant.
It's great to see that solar can be so competitive.NOT
Think how many hospitals that 22.8 million could help.

Why? Aren't Mods allowed to have opinions too? Although I will admit it comes across as a stab at Pickles, I meant it in a more overall way, and I appologise if it was seen to be not so. Pickles and I don't always see eye to eye and we've had some good conversations on different topics over the years, so I would hope he didn't see this as a purely personal thing.
As for beliefs and facts, I was pointing out that Hazelwood is the dirtiest power station in Australia - fact. Also that the local residents of the area would be healthier without it there - fact, and that Victoria has installed more capacity of renewable power generation than Hazelwood provides (1600MW) since Hazelwood was built - fact.

Thanks Homestar.
These threads inevitably seem to degrade into name calling.
Just to add to the mix, I have linked below a page from ARENA about their grants/subsidies.
You will note that they give grants for solar power with a $135 per megawatt hour or less cost.
Coal is about $40-60 a megawatt hour.

It is also pretty clear from this and other documents about Barcaldine that it is a demonstration project to research effects on network stability etc.
And I have no problem with remote solar to supply areas with poor network performance although I can recall a resident of White Cliffs telling me the happiest day of his life was that day that the solar station closed and they went on the grid.
So the network will be locked out during the day and maybe gas supply at night I guess.
So don't get too excited yet.

Of note, the Adani coal mine is being built to export coal to India. The coal from there will not be used for local energy production.
The odd thing is that the current Indian government wants to make the country self sufficient in coal and Adani started the approval process for the Carmichael mine years ago. Things are very different now with the investment in renewables ramping up. Perhaps they're hoping to vacuum up some of the $1B in concessional loans by promising much and delivering little. Anyway, they have a growing solar division that is planning large solar in Australia as well as back in India.
Adani's plans to build a solar plant near Moranbah are welcomed by environmentalists - ABC Rural - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
They are supporting some very interesting projects. Have a look at the list.
One third grant and two thirds commercial funding is a good ratio for these projects.
I note the Barcaldine one is located near the Barcaldine gas electricity plant so that's smart for network stability and sharing resources.

Our power's been out since around midnight, widespread blackouts across the state, 73mm in the gauge and ADSL is out. Slept right through it. Luckily backup power and mobile internet is working just fine this morning. Have the windmills knocked out power in Western Victoria yet?![]()
